Share with a friend

A 2016 survey shows that a whopping 69% of Americans celebrate the holiday by dressing up, handing out candy, carving pumpkins or visiting a haunted house or harvest festival.

Whether you love wearing costumes or just enjoy the season’s antics, Oxnard has a variety of activities fit for every ghost, goblin, ghoul or harvest party-goer.

Oxnard visitors can fill their itinerary with these great Halloween activities and festivals:

1. Pirate Party Cruise

Looking for an original way to celebrate Halloween? Try the Pirate Party Cruise at Channel Islands Harbor. Enjoy food and drink as you sail the seven seas on a pirate flagship, which is pirate-speak for cruising around the ocean on a paddlewheel riverboat.

All ye mateys take off on October 14 at 8pm. Tickets are $69 before September 30 and $85 after that. To get more information or buy tickets, check out the Visit Oxnard events calendar.

2. Trick or Treat at The Collection

The Collection at RiverPark, a shopping and entertainment center in Oxnard, hosts an annual trick or treating event for kids each year. Kids can go store-to-store and get special Halloween treats. Those that visit every store are entered to win a special prize.

The event is a parent-favorite since kids get to dress up and receive candy without driving from neighborhood to neighborhood.

Details for this year’s event are still in the works. Keep an eye on The Collection’s event page for more details.

3. Farmer’s Market Pumpkin Fun Day

Bring the kids and enjoy an activity-filled morning at the Farmer’s Market. On the weekend before Halloween, kids can participate in a pumpkin decorating contest, go trick or treating and join the children’s costume parade at 11:30 with prizes for the best-dressed guys and gals.

While you’re there, pick up some locally grown fruits and veggies and take home fresh seafood caught by local fisherman.

Make plans to stop by the Pumpkin Fun Day on October 29 from 10am-2pm.

4. Oxnard Steampunk Fest

Interesting in something a little out of the ordinary? Plan to attend the Oxnard Steampunk Fest.

What’s steampunk? It pairs the old-school, Victorian time period with today’s modern technology. So, at the steampunk fest you might see someone dressed in Victorian clothing with an iWatch adorned to it.

Come check out this fascinating culture during a two-day party at Heritage Square on October 14 and 15. The event boasts a beer tasting, a costume contest, a merchant bazaar, presentations, bands and much more.

Tickets are $10 in advance or $15 at the door.

5. Reign of Terror

If you make an annual trip to a haunted house around Halloween, you’re not alone. At lease 21% of people celebrate Halloween by wandering through a haunted house, according to a survey from the National Retail Federation.

If you want a frightening evening, check out Reign of Terror. Located just 25 minutes from Oxnard, this attraction offers “100 bone-chilling rooms” that are scattered across a 23,000 sq. ft. building.

Reign of Terror opens on September 30 and is open every night from 7pm-10pm. To learn more about this spooky attraction and see ticket prices, visit the website for more details.

A trip to Oxnard in the fall is the perfect retreat. Enjoy cooler temperatures, a calm atmosphere and fun-filled Halloween activities that can’t be matched.

On Saturday, October 28th, enjoy the Halloween Haunt in the Park at Plaza Park in Downtown Oxnard. Sponsored by the Oxnard Downtown Improvement District, this family-friendly event features a costume contest with prizes, free Trick-or-Treat Village, games, crafts, bounce houses, and of course – plenty of candy!
