Named for the silver screen, Silver Strand Beach is the southernmost beach in Oxnard, hugged by a colorful neighborhood of stunning homes. Silver Strand Beach is a local favorite in Oxnard. With only one entrance/exit to the Silver Strand neighborhood down Victoria Avenue, the mile-long beach is relatively isolated, bordered by Port Hueneme Naval Base to the south and the inlet to Channel Islands Harbor to the north. Since it's a bit of a trek (7 miles) from Highway 101, the beach remains fairly uncrowded most of the year.

The County of Ventura requires all commercial film productions to obtain a Ventura County Film Permit for all filming activities within the unincorporated areas of Ventura County (including private property). Productions must obtain a Film Permit for any filming activities including, but not limited to, feature films, TV series, TV movies, commercials, music videos, still photography, and web productions. Student film productions may be exempt but are required to contact the Film Permit Coordinator regarding their production.

Filming for personal use such as family events, weddings, graduations, parties, and other holiday activities are exempt from obtaining a Film Permit.

Film permits reviewed by the Ventura County Planning Division for Silver Strand Beach are subject to the Coastal Zoning Ordinance.

There are two types of film permits that productions can apply for: over-the-counter ministerial permits (not subject to environmental review) and discretionary permits (subject to environmental review). The over-the-counter film permits can be issued to allow a maximum of 14 out of 180 days of filming productions activities per over-the-counter ministerial permit issued in the Coastal Zone. There is no limit in the Coastal Zone on how many productions can film in a given year, and productions may film back-to-back so long as each production is 14 days or less. Film production activities that exceed 14 film days are required to obtain a discretionary Planned Development Permit.
