Oxnard College has served the Oxnard, Camarillo and Port Hueneme communities since the late 1960s. The 118-acre college site was purchased in 1968, and the first classes were offered at the Ramona School, followed by the Oxnard Educational Center in 1973. After opening Oxnard and Camarillo centers, Oxnard College had 4,400 students enrolled by mid-fall 1975.
Each decade, the district reinvested in its college system and added laboratories, libraries, learning centers and vocational programming buildings. The Occupational Education Building features the college’s information processing, hotel and restaurant management, and electronics programs, to name a few. In 1994, a Physical Education Complex was constructed and houses basketball and racquetball courts, a dance room and weight-training facilities.
There are 12 different departments with 25 programs available in the Oxnard College Career Education Division. Oxnard College fully equips its students to enter the job market or continue their education by offering a wide range of disciplines and educational pathways.
The Career Education programs are composed of the following: Hands-On Technology, Public Safety, Education, Business & Innovation and Visual & Performing Arts. Students can go on to pursue their careers upon completing the College’s Certificate Program and earning an A.A. degree, or can continue their education by transferring to a university. By combining courses that focus on academic knowledge as well as hands-on training, Oxnard College’s graduates are well-equipped to work in high-demand careers, in professions such as a cybersecurity analyst, auto technician, or as a firefighter.
Oxnard College hosts a variety of visitors to its campus, from visiting faculty to college athletes to guest speakers in academic events and seminars, and even student families. After touring Oxnard College, plan to explore Oxnard and its entertaining offerings and eateries.
