River Ridge Golf Course ‘Kicks Off’ New International Sport….FootGolf!
Oxnard, CA – Do you like the game of golf, but your golf swing isn’t ‘up to par’? No worries, if you can kick a ball, Otto Kanny, General Manager of River Ridge Golf Course wants to talk to you!
River Ridge is getting its kicks these days by introducing a new form of golf, ‘FootGolf’. The first California course to offer the international sport, River Ridge has aligned itself with American FootGolf League in addition to the local soccer community, AYSO & Fusion Soccer Club to introduce the new form of golf that is rapidly gaining in popularity.
How does it work? It’s basically golf, but instead of a golfer using a club to hit the ball, the player kicks a soccer ball into the hole. “With golf, we often hear three main concerns – it costs too much, it takes too long, and it’s too difficult of a game,” noted Otto Kanny. “The game of FootGolf solves all of these concerns allowing for all ages, and all skill levels to participate,” he added.
River Ridge has completed the construction of the course, which like golf, consists of par threes, fours and fives that incorporate the existing golf course features including sand traps, bunkers, hazards and rolling terrain. The FootGolf greens are located within the existing fairways and roughs. The cups are 21 inches, the same proportion of ‘golf ball to golf cup’ diameter. Players bring their own soccer ball and it is suggested that they wear indoor soccer, tennis or golf shoes. Play time takes approximately one hour to play 9 holes, and two hours for 18 holes. Players can walk or rent an electric cart. The cost is $10 for adults and $5 for children.
