In 1810 Father Hidalgo, articulated a historic proclamation for the freedom and independence of Mexico from Spain. The speech he presented is known as the “Grito de Dolores”. Many lives were lost during the eleven-year conflict, then finally in 1821 the treaty of Cordoba established Mexico as an independent constitutional monarchy. Shortly after, republican insurgents ejected the emperor and established the first Mexican Republic.
