Yes, you can swim in the Channel Islands Harbor. Specifically, Kiddie Beach Park, situated just inside the entrance to the harbor, adjacent to the Silver Strand neighborhood, is a dedicated swim beach. This area is the only part inside the harbor where swimming is allowed. Additionally, it's worth noting that watercraft launching from Kiddie Beach is restricted to the north side of the beach.
The depth of the Channel Islands Harbor can vary depending on the location within the harbor. Typically, the harbor entrance and the first half of the main basin, up to Murre Way, have a depth of approximately 20 feet. The remainder of the harbor, at zero tide, is generally around 10 feet deep. Please note that these depths may vary slightly due to tidal fluctuations and other factors. It's always a good idea to check with Ventura County Harbor Patrol at 805-973-5959 for the most up-to-date and accurate information on harbor depths.
In the Channel Islands Harbor, there are several marinas and facilities where you can dock your boat. Some of the primary places for docking in the Channel Islands Harbor include:
Currently, the Channel Islands Harbor only offers landings to Anacapa Island. Due to its natural bluffs and plateaued edges, there are no recreational swimming areas on this island. Channel Islands Expeditions offers a snorkeling expedition to Anacapa to explore the beautiful water and sea life, but it does not land on Anacapa Island.
Santa Cruz island, however, has many popular swimming locations including Scorpion Beach. Although Channel Islands Harbor is the closest departure point to Anacapa Island, our neighboring Ventura Harbor offers landings to both Santa Cruz Island and Anacapa Island. Please visit Ventura’s website for more details.
