Chase the Perfect Taco in Oxnard

Oxnard, CA – Considered a staple of American life, the taco isn’t just a menu item anymore. Tacos have become a culinary treasure. With virtual communities cropping up across the nation, chronicling tales of successful taco quests, an entire subgenre of ‘foodie’ has taken hold: meet the new food aficionado in town, the ‘taco hunter.’ Contrariwise, taco hunters, meet Oxnard, a taco hunter’s paradise.

Visit Oxnard has staked its claim: Oxnard has the most tacos per capita north of the Cali-Mex border. Disagree? The organization offers up a challenge to prove them wrong. Aside from the beloved strawberry that reigns supreme in the spring, tacos are the official unofficial food of Oxnard.

Visit Oxnard took to Instagram to survey locals and find the best taco and tortas joints in town. Based off residents’ responses, Visit Oxnard created the official “Oxnard Taco Trail,” which was launched in their 2020 Visitors Magazine. The Taco Trail highlights 14 of the city’s taco trucks and restaurants for both visitors and residents to explore this February and beyond.

Each location on the map features a cartoon icon to provide a quick visual overview of either a specialty item or notable feature of the eatery. For example, waterside Yolanda’s Mexican Café is well-known for its incredible margaritas, and Cabo Seafood Grill & Cantina is known for its tableside guacamole. El Chilito concocts micheladas that resemble a work of art, while El 30 Mariscos offers a skyscraper of a seafood tower. Some of the best tortas around can be found at The Taco Shop.

“We realize that Oxnard has dozens upon dozens of incredible Mexican food restaurants,” stated Brittney Hendricks, Director of Marketing & Communications for Visit Oxnard. “The map highlights a few stand-outs selected from resident feedback,” she added.

This February, the Visit Oxnard team will hit the streets and personally visit each of the 14 restaurants on the Oxnard Taco Trail to highlight the amazing taco combinations in Oxnard to share with its social media followers. In addition, printed stand-alone hard copies of the Oxnard Taco Trail are available at Visit Oxnard administrative offices and throughout each Taco Trail location during the month of February.
