Surf the Rails into Oxnard Aboard Amtrak Surfliner
Save on gas, and enjoy the beautiful coastal views of Southern California by taking a ride on Amtrak’s Pacific Surfliner! From San Diego’s Santa Fe Depot through Orange County, Los Angeles, Ventura and Santa Barbara Counties and northbound to San Luis Obispo, Pacific Surfliner trains stop at destinations including major attractions (e.g., Del Mar’s race track, Carlsbad’s LEGOLAND, Anaheim’s Angels Stadium/Disneyland) along the coast; there’s even a Pacific Surfliner station in Oxnard!
The Pacific Surfliner is the scheduled train that services Southern California, coasting along one of the most naturally scenic Amtrak routes in the nation. Frequently used by commuters to get to work in order to skip traffic, this method of transportation is an affordable, eco-friendly, car-free and stress-free way of getting around.
Train Seating and Amenities
Using these transit services, skip the headache of packed freeways and kick back and relax in style. Although unreserved coach seats are already spacious, business class seats offer guaranteed seating and additional leg room. Pacific Surfliner travel via Amtrak is inclusive of many amenities: comfortable seats with plenty of leg room; beverages and snacks available for purchase from a café car; plug-in power and wi fi to keep you connected and more. Free ID tags are available at all Amtrak stations; checked baggage is available at Oxnard Transit Center and many other Amtrak stations at no additional charge (arrive at least 45 minutes prior to departure time if you’re checking baggage or require ticketing/passenger assistance). Adding to the onboard experience, rarely interrupted views of the Pacific Ocean will take your breath away.
Schedule and Pricing
The Pacific Surfliner stops at the Oxnard Transit Center at 10:18 AM, 12:35PM, 1:42PM, 5:40PM and 7:54PM on the southbound route and 5:58AM, 9:21 AM, 10:44 AM, 11:44 AM and 1:16, 4:39 PM, 8:47 PM, 11:45 PM and 12:01 AM on the northbound route (*Schedule current as of 7/20/2019).
Amtrak is able to offer year-round savings on select fares through their discount program. Enjoy California Everyday Discounts, Student, Senior (62+) and Kids (2-12) Discounts, Book Early Discounts and even occasional standard discounts off the normal adult fare. One infant (under 2) may ride free with each fare-paying adult.
Depending on where you are coming from your expected train travel time can be anywhere from 30 minutes to several hours. A non-discounted adult fare between San Diego and Oxnard (4 hours, 40 minutes) is priced at $41.70. Between Oxnard and San Luis Obispo (3 hours, 57 minutes), the same ticket is priced at $38.25 (*Current as of 8/1/2019). Those wanting to make the entire journey from San Diego to San Luis Obispo may expect a 5 hour and 40 minutes journey along the coast.
