About ST. JOHN'S REGIONAL MEDICAL CENTER

St. John’s Regional Medical Center began in 1912 when Rev. John Laubacher asked the Sisters of Mercy holy order to establish a hospital in the recently incorporated city of Oxnard. The land the hospital was built on was generously donated by Johannes Borchard. Borchard, a long-time, successful farmer, had previously sponsored many migrated families to the area but wanted the hard-working agricultural families to receive quality medical care for generations to come. St. John’s Regional Medical Center officially opened its doors on June 14, 1912. The once, six-room, 12-bed hospital has now evolved into the 365-bed gem of Oxnard's medical community.

SJRMC is also home to the largest labyrinth west of the Mississippi River: the Hiji Family Healing Garden and Labyrinth. This healing garden hosts four-story high bamboo and tranquil koi ponds, located on the garden level of the medical center. The labyrinth serves as a place for reflection, meditation and renewal, and is located outside between the hospital and Williams St. It is lighted and wheelchair and walker accessible. As the decades passed, the mission-driven institution expanded and grew in size and reach, but it maintained its commitment to the well-being of its community. The hospital today is proud to continue its legacy of serving the underserved, by sponsoring a variety of programs that address community health needs, as well as a food pantry and community grants.
