Mrs. Claus Celebrates Oxnard’s Cultural Diversity
Come to Heritage Square, where everything old is new again and celebrate over 100 years of diverse cultural populations in Ventura County.
Mrs. Claus will be the Mistress of Ceremonies as groups and individuals present songs, dances and stories that share their cultural roots. Scheduled so far are representatives from our African American, Latino, Philippine, Japanese and Jewish communities. Also appearing will be “Hula Anyone” from Santa Barbara, “Razzberry Jam” a classic American jazz band from the Turn of the Century and “Grupo Folklorico La Villa Alegre” presenting a live nativity and “Dance Identity”, performing a traditional dance from Ghana.
Mrs. Claus will share tidbits of fantasy about her life with Santa through the centuries and how some of today’s holiday traditions originated.
Tours of Heritage Square available at 1:00 and 3:00. Families can take pictures with Mrs. Claus. Gingerbread House contest entries will be on display and the public can vote on the People’s Choice winner.
This program and the character of Mrs. Claus is created by Connie Korenstein, living history re-enactor and four time winner of the “Uncle Leo’s Stories of Ventura County” Contest.
Sponsored by The City of Oxnard.
