Need ideas? We’re always thrilled to hear of do-gooders lending a hand to lead harbor and beach cleanups. September is Coastal Cleanup Month, so be sure to participate! If you’re looking to participate in a volunteer program, here are some noteworthy opportunities in the city:
California Strawberry Festival welcomes enthusiasts who are 14 years of age or older to become a member of the volunteer task force and receive free entry to the Festival.
Experience 500 years of maritime history, and meet people from all over the world at Channel Islands Maritime Museum. Assist with guest services, docent tours, education tours, events, collections, or the gift shop.
Get involved with Channel Islands National Marine Sanctuary by joining the Channel Islands Naturalist Corps, a group of specially trained volunteers (18+ years of age) dedicated to educating passengers on board whale watch vessels, on island hikes and with local outreach events. They also conduct citizen science including the collection of valuable research on marine mammals and other important sanctuary and park resources.
Become a steward of Channel Islands National Park. Contribute skills, time and enthusiasm to help preserve and protect the park’s natural and cultural resources and to serve and educate visitors. Contribute at the Visitor Center or on the islands themselves with trail maintenance, vegetation restoration, historic research and more.
Act as a historical interpreter and tour guide, or assist at special events and programs, with gardening and landscaping, research, administrative services, collections management, and assisting with the Heritage Square educational program A Golden Vision.
Non-profit foundation Oxnard Farm Park is always looking for a few cowhands to lend a hand. Volunteers are requested Tuesdays and Saturdays from 9am to 11am.
There are volunteer opportunities to help out at Oxnard Performing Arts Center, where Anderson .Paak held his homecoming concert upon the release of his Grammy award-winning album “Oxnard.” The venue needs help with gardening/landscaping, venue upkeep, special events and administration.
Oxnard Police Activities League (PAL) offers long-term, seasonal and one-time volunteer opportunities. Tasks include office support, assistant and head coaching, fundraising, support, mentoring, tutoring, homework help and holiday & special event support.
Volunteers for the Oxnard Salsa Festival help keep admission free by supporting the event presented by the Oxnard Downtowners, a nonprofit organization.
The City of Oxnard Retired & Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) helps seniors stay active and involved by matching them with community nonprofits that need their skills. Serve by mentoring a veteran, tutoring youth, grocery shopping for homebound seniors, working as a docent and more.
