Herzog Wine Cellars

Our Oxnard wine tour begins with Herzog Wine Cellars, the nation’s largest producer of kosher wines. Although Herzog Wine Cellars is located in an unassuming industrial park, visitors are immediately greeted by the beautiful, soaring ceilings and elegantly designed interior. A visit to Herzog Wine Cellars offers everything from wine tastings to Mediterranean-inspired kosher cuisine at Tierra Sur Restaurant. Are you curious about the wine-making process? Enjoy a self-guided tour where you can view the fermentation vats, wine aging barrels and the bottling process from the second story. There are extras such as cigars, chocolates, special events and winemaker’s dinners that make Herzog Wine Cellars a must-visit for every wine connoisseur. Herzog is open Sunday through Friday afternoons.

From a custom, on-site water treatment facility to sustainable materials and practices in the production process, as well as pushing to adhere to strict sustainability standards in its vineyards, being good stewards of the land is a primary practice for Herzog Wine Cellars.

Vice President of Winery Operations Joseph Herzog sums it up, “Producing quality wines–and being that we’re a kosher winery–sustainable is just a perfect fit.” Senior winemaker David Galzignato elaborates, “We approach sustainability from an E2E process. And while we’ve made great strides, our work is far from done." David continues, “We currently have sustainability certificates for our vineyards in Alexander Valley and Clarksburg and Lodi. Sustainability is a priority for the winery and one of my passions.”

Magnavino Cellars

The award winning Magnavino Cellars is the next stop on your Oxnard wine tour. Magnavino Cellars was opened in 2008 as a labor of love by Robert and Barbara Wagner, who envisioned a commercial winery in Oxnard. Utilizing the latest technology, Magnavino produces several different varietals. At “Magnavino After Dark,” you can enjoy tastings on Friday evenings from 5:00 pm-8:00 pm. In addition to a glass of wine, the Magnavino After Dark menu includes your choice from a variety of small plates, gourmet cheeses and salads. For the Magnavino Cellars wine lovers, join the wine club and attend exclusive members-only events with tastings, food and entertainment.

Rancho Ventavo Cellars

Heading downtown to the Oxnard Historic District, we find our next stop on the wine tour, Rancho Ventavo Cellars. Rancho Ventavo is situated in The Scarlett House in Heritage Square, a group of historic homes that is also a perfect location for an enjoyable wine tasting. Rancho Ventavo Cellars is an award winning winery, that has been owned by George and Faye Gilpatrick for over 30 years and was inspired after the couple took several wine trips across the world. In 1998, the Gilpatricks decided to open their own winery with the help of their friend, Peter Nelson, and the rest is wine making history. The tasting room is open Friday – Sunday from 12:00 pm–5:00 pm.

Strey Cellars

If you’re looking for something edgy, try Oxnard’s newest winery, the award winning Strey Cellars. Owners Scott and Katie Ballew opened the

cellar in 2014 and pride themselves on straying from the norm (thus the name “Strey”). The tasting room takes a cue from industrial roots with concrete counters, 18’ ceilings and cinder blocks. Zinfandel is Scott’s specialty, but Strey Cellars produces Sauvignon Blanc, Tempranillo, Chardonnay, Merlot, Syrah and many more varieties. Visit their website to learn more about tasting room hours.
