Parade of Lights
Kick off the holiday season with the Channel Islands Harbor Parade of Lights!
A Holiday Tradition on the Water
Every year, the waterfront lights up with one of Oxnard’s most recognizable holiday traditions: the Parade of Lights. This parade takes place on the water as decorated boats cruise through the Channel Islands Harbor. Every December the event is a huge draw for the community. The sight of the harbor’s festive lights reflection on the water makes for a magical holiday atmosphere. Families and visitors from all across Ventura County come to enjoy the night of lights on the coast.
More Than Just a Boat Parade
The Channel Islands Harbor Parade of Lights is more than an evening boat procession. It's a full holiday celebration filled with decorated boats, live entertainment, family activities, festive shopping, and plenty of seasonal cheer before the first vessel even leaves the dock.
Boats Decorated for the Holidays
The lights are a sight to behold at the Parade of Lights. From yachts to smaller private owned vessels, you’ll see a wide range of boats in the parade. Each boat is decorated by the owner specifically for the parade. While all have holiday lights, some go the extra (nautical) mile and coordinate music, too! The sky's the limit! Each year a theme is chosen and the boaters try to outdo the others boats in a spectacular show of creative, but friendly competition. Recent years have seen holiday cowboys and Rudolph’s Rock N’ Roll Regatta. Be prepared to be dazzled with seaside holiday flair.
Event Highlights
The larger than life holiday show takes place at night, but it isn't a standalone event. There is just as much excitement on the harbor prior to the parade. Bring the family to explore the Parade of Lights Holiday Market. Hang out at the harbor for a full day of activities, live music and food. Carolers will serenade and Santa will be there for free photo ops! Watch the waterfront transform from a daytime festival to a stage for boats making a splash with festive twinkly lights.
In an effort to spread joy over the holidays, the parade has an attached charitable event. Bring non-perishable food items and new, unwrapped toys for the Annual Channel Islands Harbor Food & Toy Drive. Feel good celebrating at the harbor knowing your contribution is bringing much needed holiday cheer to someone else.

In prior years, the Parade of Lights has started at 7pm and runs for approximately two hours. The decorated showboats circle the harbor for two hours so viewers get the full effect. Viewing the Parade
The parade will begin near the Peninsula Park and Peninsula Yacht Marina. You can view the parade from various marina areas, waterfront walkways and harbor park areas. The parade follows this route (view here) allowing all parts of the harbor to get a good view of the show. Many viewers come prepared with blankets and chairs to stay cozy during the parade. Dinner and a show, anyone? Many restaurants at the Channel Islands Harbor have harbor views. Grab a bite at one of them so you don’t miss any of the show.
Parade Participation
How to Enter Your Boat in the Parade
If you own a boat and would like to participate in the Parade of Lights, you can register your vessel through the Channel Islands Harbor website. Registration typically opens in advance of the event and may close once capacity is reached, so early sign-up is recommended. Boaters will receive important event details such as check-in times, staging instructions and parade routes to ensure a smooth and organized experience on the water.
Themed Decorations and Creative Displays
The Parade of Lights is a themed event, with a new concept announced each year to inspire participants. All boat decorations and lighting should align with the annual theme, but creativity is highly encouraged. From simple string lights to fully immersive displays, participants transform their vessels into floating holiday scenes that reflect both personal style and festive spirit.
