Nestled in Oxnard, the Channel Islands Harbor is your one stop destination for an exciting day on the water. Rent a kayak or paddle board and tour around the beautiful and peaceful harbor before stopping for lunch at one of the many delicious restaurants that surround it. The harbor also offers a dive center as well as many different boat charters. Fishing enthusiasts can set sail on a sport fishing excursion, or you can begin your journey to one of the five Channel Islands here. During the months of December through April there are daily whale watching trips that offer you a rare chance to see seven different whale species! For more information click here. The coasts off Santa Barbara and Ventura Counties are teeming with life and home to stellar views and endless fun. We have some of the most diverse marine ecosystems in the world which are home to many diverse species and an endless labyrinth of kelp forests. Grab your snorkel or your dive mask and explore our waters which have been dubbed North America’s Galapagos. Hop in a kayak and float around next to dolphins playing in the waves. Or, enjoy the immense history of the sanctuary that is a special place to the Chumash people and dotted with areas where artifacts have been found, including the remains of a human dating back approximately 13,000 years! Channel Islands National Park is a cluster of five islands that dot the coast of southern California. After being isolated for thousands of years the islands are home to many unique species not found anywhere else in the world. (That’s why it’s often referred to as “North America’s Galapagos”!) Dive off the coast, hike along pristine trails looking for bald eagle nests, or camp year-round on any of the islands. For an added treat take your trip anywhere between December through April for a chance to see whales along their annual migration through the channel! Drive along the iconic Pacific Coast Highway, then set up your tent or RV by some of California’s most stunning coastlines and enjoy a stay in paradise.  The area includes more than 70 miles of hiking trails along the hillsides, and is an ideal place to go windsurfing, surf fishing or just kick back and stick your toes in the sand. Don’t forget to stop along the way to slide down the areas iconic giant sand dune across from Thornhill beach nestled against the mountainside on your way to your campground!  It will be fun for the whole family. Located in the Santa Ynez mountains, the Los Padres National Forest is a 1.75-million-acre area filled with lush forests, chaparral environments, grasslands, and in some areas costal views. perfect for hiking day trips or extended backpacking/camping excursions. Distance from Oxnard: 25 Miles (hwy 101)

Ride the secret mountain biking trails featured in Mountain Bike Action Magazine in the beautiful Conejo Valley. Once littered with now-dormant volcanos that can only be seen from some of the higher elevation mountain biking trails, take your mountain bike adventures to a new level. Or for those who prefer to set out on foot, take a hike through lush oak and sycamore lined trails to the stunningly beautiful Paradise Falls, a forty-foot water fall into a large pool-a great place to cool off after a long day of hiking! Distance from Oxnard: 45 Miles

Topanga State Park is home for 36 miles of trails through oak trees, and beautiful open grasslands overlooking the Pacific Ocean. This park will be offering docent walks from January 1 through June 30 for those who would like a guided hike. The free hikes begin at Trippet Ranch at 10 AM and end at noon. For those who decide to explore on their own there are many different paths through many different environments that are sure to take you on a worthwhile adventure. After your hike stop through the visitor center to visit their museum with exhibits on the human and natural history of the park. For more information click here. Distance from Oxnard: 37 Miles (hwy 101)

Take a leisurely hike, bike, or horse ride along the beautiful golden hills and canyons of Cheesebro and Palo Comado trails. Walk a long stunning chaparral, coastal sage scrub environments to the Sulphur hot springs or Simi Peak, the top of a hill that offers unparalleled views of the cities. Birders and Nature lovers should be sure to bring their binoculars because this rocky terrain is an ideal nesting place for birds of prey such as owls and hawks and deer, rabbits, coyotes and even bobcats have been seen. Dive into nature and some of California’s history by visiting the Santa Monica National recreation area in the mountains of Malibu. Hike the famous Backbone Trail, open two Saturdays a month January-April, or explore history by attending lectures and visiting old Native American Villages. Established in 1892, the Angeles National Forest has been a nature retreat for many living in the metropolitan area of Los Angeles. With a diverse landscape ranging from dense chaparral slopes covered in pine and fir trees this forest offers equestrian riders, hikers and even fisherman a unique place to unwind.  Although there are currently some closures do to storms, short cut roads should be reopening soon. Distance from Oxnard: 100 Miles

Although it has shrunk considerably in the past three hundred years due to urbanization, Carrizo Plain National Park is still one of the most beautiful and wild landscapes in California. This deep valley is home to sprawling grasslands, painted rock, beautiful mountain views and the largest remaining natural alkali wetland in Southern California.
